Drive By with a double take.

So the weather was poor yesterday and i went for a quick drive by the house to see if the painter was working. I did a big double take as the brickies had had a productive day!!! They had bricked the back side up to the height that they need scaffolding to go higher all the way around to the alfresco. Then bricked about the bottom 4 courses under the back sliding doors around the north side of the house and under the dining room sliding doors to the end of the sitting room.

I will add photos when i can get some. (to dark last night)

The interesting thing is the problem with levelness of the step-down ledge that's used to brick the first course on. Has risen again, but this time instead of just mudding up a big slab with mortar they choose to split some bricks and do a half height course. At this point you might be thinking yep that’s how that should be done. I can’t wait to get some photos of this one for you all to go WTF at. So at some point they got sick of cutting a brick lengthways to make a half height brick and chose to just slice a brick into slithers top down then just mortar all the slithers in a row to make an approx. half height row. And they seem to have mixed the to techniques together in areas of the bottom course along the north side.

Update DSCF3054

On a high note the brick work above the bottom course looks terrific. even mortar gaps, very sharp points, good colour variance mix-up.

I’m just going to have to fill the yard above the bottom course to hide it hands down.

The front of the house will be a little different there is no room for error here as the house has a portico all the way across the front the bottom course of bricks will be on show! Fingers crossed this can be done like the garage wall / south side of the house.

  1. Glad to hear about the Brick progress. That's great news. Odd that it's been done a couple of different ways but probably different brickies in the crew doing different bits..

Always good when the final few bits come together.. Can't wait to see some pics, will have to drive by tonight on my way home if I've time and it's not too dark.
